Jets name 6 captains for the 2026 NFL season with a curious exclusion

The New York Jets have named their team captains ahead of the 2026 NFL season that is set to begin on Sunday, Sept. 13 against the Tennessee Titans.

The list of team leaders named by players in the locker room are:

• QB Geno Smith
• OL Joe Tippmann
• DT Harrison Phillips
• LB Demario Davis
• S Minkah Fitzpatrick
• ST Isaiah Williams

A name not listed that some are making note of is wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson is a team leader for the Jets and does carry himself as a potential captain, it was probably just a numbers game. The three defenders are clear captain material and special teams is always represented.

Tippmann over Wilson likely was just to give a nod to the players in the trenches. No harm, no foul against the wide receiver who will be crucial to his team in 2026.
