The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship battle took a major turn Saturday night at Phoenix Raceway. Jesse Love captured his second victory of the 2026 season, holding off Sam Mayer in a thrilling finish while taking control of the championship standings with only three races remaining in the Chase.

Love’s victory was worth 75 points after he swept both stages and won the race. The Richard Childress Racing driver now sits atop the standings, giving himself a valuable advantage as the championship fight heads toward its final stretch.

Love Moves to the Top

Love entered Phoenix near the top of the standings, trailing Sheldon Creed by just two points. However, his dominant performance combined with Creed’s mechanical problems completely changed the picture.

Love led 157 of the 200 laps and held off Mayer by just 0.128 seconds to secure the win. The victory moved Love into first place with 2,367 points, giving him a 36-point advantage over Justin Allgaier.

Allgaier finished third at Phoenix, keeping himself within striking distance. Corey Day also had a strong night, finishing fourth and moving into third in the standings.

Creed Suffers Costly Setback

The biggest disappointment of the night belonged to Creed. The former points leader experienced an electrical issue that caused his No. 00 Chevrolet to lose power during the opening stage.

Although Creed managed to return to the race, he finished 32nd and lost significant ground in the championship battle. He now sits fourth in the standings, 49 points behind Love.

With three races remaining, Creed faces an uphill challenge. He will need strong finishes and some help from the drivers ahead of him to regain control of the championship.

Updated Top 10 Standings

  1. Jesse Love — 2,367 points
  2. Justin Allgaier — 2,331 points
  3. Corey Day — 2,328 points
  4. Sheldon Creed — 2,318 points
  5. Carson Kvapil — 2,288 points
  6. Sam Mayer — 2,281 points
  7. Sammy Smith — 2,230 points
  8. Taylor Gray — 2,226 points
  9. Austin Hill — 2,224 points

Talladega Could Change Everything

The series now heads to Talladega Superspeedway, where unpredictable racing and multi-car accidents can dramatically change the championship picture. Love has established himself as the driver to beat, but his 36 point cushion over Allgaier is far from insurmountable.

With the championship approaching its conclusion, every stage point and finishing position will matter. Love leaves Phoenix with momentum and the points lead, while Creed and the other contenders must respond quickly to keep their title hopes alive.
