Jerry Stackhouse reveals what he learned as Steve Kerr's assistant coach

· · 1 min read

After two seasons as a member of Steve Kerr’s coaching staff, 18-year veteran Jerry Stackhouse decided to test the free agent market in search of his first NBA head coaching job. Stackhouse has already interviewed with the Portland Trail Blazers and was also said to be a ‘candidate’ for the Chicago Bulls‘ vacancy.

While Stackhouse determines his future, the former Vanderbilt head coach made an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” sharing the invaluable insights he took from his time with Kerr with a panel of past NBA players, including former Warrior DeMarcus Cousins. “With Steve, it was all about, you know, he wants those guys’ joy. His messaging was always on point,” said Stackhouse.

“I saw how Steve, you know, he wants conversation. He wants to make sure that you understand—even the coaching staff—just constantly confirming with everybody to make sure that you know where you stand and you know what we’re trying to get accomplished.”

A former championship-winning G-League head coach (Raptors 905), Stackhouse knows what it takes to develop talent. However, now with the added guidance and mentorship from Kerr, Stackhouse appears to be one of the more sought-after names remaining on the market.
