Jensen Ackles’ New Amazon Crime Thriller Series Casts Reacher Franchise Star

Jensen Ackles’ upcoming MGM+ crime series Rules Of Prey is expanding with more thriller TV show alumni.

Following his acclaimed role as Soldier Boy in The Boys and one-season turn in Countdown, TV star Jensen Ackles is back under the Amazon umbrella with a new thriller adaptation. Based on the 1989 crime novel of the same name by John Sandford, Ackles stars in MGM+’s upcoming eight-episode series Rules of Prey as former detective Lucas Davenport. Set in Minneapolis, Davenport is drawn back into law enforcement to investigate a serial killer with messages designed specifically for him.

After heading into production in September 2026, Deadline has now reported three more stars joining Jensen Ackles in the cast of Rules of Prey season 1. The new actors are Peter Outerbridge, whose credits include Reacher‘s new spinoff series Neagley and Netflix’s I Will Find You, The Umbrella Academy star Cody Ray Thompson, and Memory of a Killer actor David Klein.

Peter Outerbridge is set to play Sloan, a veteran who is extremely dedicated to his job as a detective at the Minneapolis Police Department. Ethan Klein will portray Peter, who is described as a green but overconfident Minneapolis Police Department Detective who is desperately eager to assert his dominance in the force. Cody Ray Thompson has been cast as Louis, described as an exceptionally skilled, geeky legal researcher who is overworked.

MGM+’s Rules of Prey is created by writer-producer Bruce Terris, who recently served as an executive producer on HBO’s Emmy-winning limited series DTF St. Louis. Alongside Terris also serving as executive producer and showrunner, Rules of Prey‘s executive producers include Charles Gogolak, Matt Leipzig, Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and John Webber.
