Few players have become as important to their franchise as Jeffery Simmons has to the Tennessee Titans. Since being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Simmons has developed into one of the league’s premier defensive tackles and the unquestioned centerpiece of Tennessee’s defense.

Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi recently reinforced Simmons’ value to the organization, calling him a “pillar” of the franchise and praising both his on-field production and leadership off the field.

“Jeffery Simmons is a pillar for our franchise and embodies what it means to be a Titan,” Borgonzi said in a statement. “He’s the premier defensive tackle in the National Football League and you win with players like Jeffery.”

The numbers support that praise. In 99 career games, including 97 starts, Simmons has recorded 383 tackles, 42.5 sacks, 27 passes defended, eight forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries. His ability to disrupt offenses from the interior has made him one of the NFL’s most impactful defensive linemen.

Simmons’ impact goes far beyond statistics. At 6-foot-4 and more than 300 pounds, he possesses a rare combination of power, quickness, and athleticism that allows him to dominate both against the run and as a pass rusher. Offensive coordinators frequently design game plans around slowing him down, often committing multiple blockers to prevent him from taking over games.

Titans lean on Simmons as foundation of defensive success

His presence creates opportunities for teammates throughout Tennessee’s defense. When Simmons commands double teams, linebackers and edge rushers are often left with favorable matchups, making him one of the most valuable players on the roster even when he isn’t recording sacks.

Off the field, Simmons has embraced a leadership role within the organization and the Nashville community. Teammates and coaches consistently point to his work ethic and commitment as examples for younger players to follow.

As the Titans continue building toward future success, Simmons remains the player around whom the defense is constructed. His production, leadership, and consistency have made him one of the NFL’s elite defensive tackles and a cornerstone of Tennessee’s identity heading into the 2026 season.
