Former Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy is officially set to join Championship strugglers Burnley on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
While the summer transfer window might have slammed shut on Tuesday night following the 11pm deadline, Vardy has remained without a club since leaving Italian outfit Cremonese back in June.
Romano announced on Sunday that the former England international is set to arrive at Turf Moor on an initial one-year deal.
Spending just a sole campaign among Italy’s elite last season and failing to help Cremonese avoid an immediate Serie B return, Vardy had reportedly been keen on securing an immediate return to England.
Firing Leicester to their iconic Premier League success a decade ago and widely regarded as one of their greatest ever players, Vardy remains the Foxes’ all-time leading goalscorer with 145 strikes.
Finally signing up for a new adventure following his brief Serie A switch, the 26-cap international will add some much-needed experience to a Burnley squad who find themselves at the heart of a public struggle.
Falling to a 2-1 loss at home against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, the Clarets sit rock-bottom of the Championship table and they have put just two points on the board from their opening five appearances.
