The board explained that candidates in Canada and other parts of North America would have a more convenient option for participating in the Nigerian admission process once the centre becomes operational.
It said the initiative would also help maintain stronger links between Nigerians living abroad and the country’s education system.
Beyond improving access to the UTME, JAMB said the proposed Ottawa centre would contribute to efforts to promote Nigerian tertiary education internationally by creating opportunities for Nigerians in the diaspora to remain connected to the country’s institutions.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.
JAMB reiterated that it was working towards having the Ottawa examination centre ready for the 2027 UTME, describing the development as an opportunity to remove some of the barriers faced by Nigerians abroad who wish to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
The board said the proposed arrangement would provide greater access to the examination and support more Nigerians in the diaspora who intend to gain admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
