DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons will participate in the league’s annual media day on Monday, Sept. 28, but they may do so without Jalen Duren. Reports indicate that Duren is expected to miss media day amid the ongoing contract dispute with the organization.

Under league rules, Duren cannot participate in any team-related activities within the facility without a signed contract. However, the decision aligns with Duren’s offseason behavior, as he has consistently missed several team events and workouts. The Pistons will host their first day of training camp practice on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

If both parties cannot reach an agreement before the start of the 2026-27 campaign, Duren could return on a one-year qualifying offer worth $9.6 million. If he plays on the qualifying offer, Duren could become an unrestricted free agent next summer, putting the Pistons at risk of losing him for nothing. Duren must accept the qualifying offer by Thursday, Oct. 1.

The increasing rift between Duren and the Pistons has attracted greater interest from teams across the league in the 22-year-old center. At the forefront are the Sacramento Kings, who have been rumored to offer Duren a max contract.
