Dominik Mysterio has made it clear that he wants to be the man who ends his father Rey Mysterio’s legendary WWE career, describing the opportunity as his “birthright”.
The former Intercontinental Champion also has a specific venue in mind for the potential retirement match, hoping to bring the family rivalry to a historic arena in Mexico.
His comments come amid reports that Rey could retire from in-ring competition in 2027, although WWE has not confirmed his plans.
Dominik Mysterio wants to retire his father in Mexico
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Dominik explained that he has long wanted his father to step away from wrestling and believes he should be the one to make it happen.
He said: “I’ve been talking about it. I’ve been wanting him to retire. I want him out of here, you know? There’s only room for so many Mysterios in WWE. There’s one pushing 60, and I think it’s time for him to kick rocks; that’s just how I see it.”
Dominik was even more direct when discussing the prospect of being involved in Rey’s final match.
“It’s my birthright. I would lose my absolute s*** if it’s not me,” he said. “I’ve got to take his mask, and I’ve got to take his name.”
The 28-year-old also revealed where he would like the match to take place, pointing towards the Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico.
“I believe my dad has wrestled there, debuted there. My great-uncle and most of my godfathers wrestled there [too],” Dominik explained.

The venue would carry personal significance for the Mysterio family, making it a fitting choice for a potential final chapter in their long-running rivalry.
Rey, who began his wrestling career in 1989, remains one of the most respected figures in the sport. He helped popularise lucha libre in the United States during his time in WCW before joining WWE in 2002.
The former WWE Champion was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023 and was named general manager of AAA in May.
Reports have suggested that Rey could retire from active competition in 2027, with the expectation that he would continue working in an executive capacity and help develop younger talent.
However, no official retirement date or venue has been announced, leaving Dominik’s dream match dependent on what Rey decides to do next.
