Younes Ebnoutalib stole the show for Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening Bundesliga game of the season, scoring a hat-trick against 1. FC Union Berlin.
However, while the 22-year-old was delighted with his three goals, he was also frustrated that Eintracht threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 in Berlin.
“Of course, I’m happy that I scored three goals straight away in the first game. But it would have been even better if we had won,” Ebnoutalib told Sportschau after the game.
“We fought well, but we were missing a bit of luck. It’s a shame.”
On a personal level, though, Ebnoutalib has plenty to be happy about.
“It’s good for my head,” the striker said of his three goals, explaining that the hat-trick will affect how he approaches the games ahead.
“It gives me confidence,” he added.
In a post-match interview with Sky Germany, Eintracht head coach Adi Hütter praised Ebnoutalib for making a “top start” to the season.
“He works incredibly hard for the team, and when you always work that hard, you get rewarded,” Hütter said.
