Ainsley Maitland-Niles says his last-gasp equaliser against Manchester United made the result “feel like a win” for Everton.
The Toffees twice trailed to United at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but they salvaged a point in the 96th minute to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.
Tyrique George cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener before substitute Benjamin Sesko thought he had netted an 88th-minute winner for United.
But the visitors failed to clear their lines in the closing seconds, and Maitland-Niles pounced to rifle a powerful shot into the top-left corner, netting a debut goal for his new side.
He is the first player to score on his Premier League debut for Everton since Richarlison against Wolves in August 2018 and the first English player since Andrew Johnson versus Watford in August 2006.
It was just his second goal in 110 appearances in the competition, and his first since December 2018, for Arsenal versus Liverpool.
“It felt like a win. We dug deep and managed to get a point in the end,” Maitland-Niles told Sky Sports.
“The crowd were with us, and we were fighting to the end, and that’s why you get those results.
“It’s amazing [to get the goal]; everyone wants to start off like that, and thankfully I did. The ball fell to me on the edge of the box; I put my foot through it, and it ended up in the top corner, which I’m happy about.
“I came in to work hard. It’s a team full of hard workers, so I fit right in. I’m going to show I can fit right in and pull my weight and give as much as everyone else, if not more.”

Timed at 95:11, Maitland-Niles scored Everton’s latest Premier League goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and their latest overall at home since James Tarkowski against Liverpool in February 2025 at Goodison Park (97:08).
Everton did finish the game with more shots (18 to 14) and attempts on target (six to three), despite seeing less of the ball than United.
Moyes, who avoided a 24th defeat against his former club, believes the club deserved to walk away with even more.
“I’m disappointed that it was only a point. I wish it was three points,” he told Sky Sports.
“The stadium’s been needing some special moments, and maybe it wasn’t special enough, but it was important for us not to lose. You want to build a bit of momentum.
“Hopefully, the group of players we’ve got here will stick together, look after each other, which I thought they did.”
