New England Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams knows opposing offenses will have a plan for him each week. His challenge is finding a way to beat it.
Williams has become a player opposing teams must account for when preparing for the Patriots. That attention often means facing double teams, forcing the defensive tackle to find ways to create pressure despite having multiple blockers working against him.
His approach is straightforward: Get past the first blocker before the second one can help.
#Patriots DT Milton Williams on how he can beat double teams: “Win quicker. Beat the first guy, and then be ready to throw a second move when the next guy come. It’s tough when they both get on you at once. But if one come, leave him, and then the other one—if they come on different levels it’s a little easier.” (🎥 @Patriots)

“Win quicker. Beat the first guy, and then be ready to throw a second move when the next guy come,” Williams explained. “It’s tough when they both get on you at once. But if one come, beat him and then the other one, if they come on different levels, it’s a little easier.”
Williams understands that drawing extra attention is part of the job, particularly as one of the Patriots’ key defensive linemen.
“Hey, I always say, man, it costs to be the boss,” Williams said. “That’s a price doing business in the NFL.”
Rather than letting that attention become an obstacle, Williams is focused on finding solutions. Beating the first blocker quickly can disrupt the timing of a double team and give him an opportunity to make a play before the second defender can provide help.
For New England, Williams’ ability to work through those matchups could be an important factor in the defensive front’s ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks and disrupt the offense.
