Iran has executed two individuals accused of participating in the murder of police officers during the January protests, as reported by the Fars news agency.

The individuals allegedly “bound police officers to a signpost with ropes, then assaulted them with stones, doused them in gasoline, and ignited them” during a demonstration in Isfahan’s Shahid Alikhani Square on January 18, according to Fars.

While the officers were still alive, they were reportedly dragged to the ground and subjected to multiple stabbings with knives and machetes.

The UN human rights office has indicated that at least 12 young men have received death sentences for the killing of four security personnel in Shahid Alikhani Square, with two of them executed on July 19.

The UN human rights office has urged an immediate cessation of executions, stating that these actions follow “procedures that seem to lack fair trial standards.”

It has been reported that at least 24 individuals have been executed in relation to the January protests this year.

The Iranian government claims that 3,117 individuals lost their lives during the protests, while the US-based organization HRANA asserts that it has recorded over 7,000 fatalities and is investigating nearly 12,000 additional cases.

UN Special Rapporteur on Iran, Mai Sato, has suggested that more than 20,000 civilians may have died, but the actual number cannot be confirmed due to internet restrictions imposed by the state.
