International captain Geoff Ogilvy has sought the advice of several European Ryder Cup stars ahead of the 2026 Presidents Cup. Ogilvy is hoping to lead the Internationals to their first victory over the United States since 1998 in Melbourne.
Ogilvy wants to learn from the Europeans given their recent Ryder Cup success. Luke Donald’s team won the last two editions, including last year’s event at Bethpage Black in New York.

International captain Geoff Ogilvy has drawn inspiration from the European team ahead of the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah. Ogilvy has spoken to strategic adviser Paul McGinley, captain Luke Donald and star players Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
The Europeans undoubtedly have a more talented squad, but the internationals can still learn from their team spirit. This is often considered the biggest difference between the European and United States teams.
“I can only go on observation and talking to some of the Euros after the tournament and what goes on,” Ogilvy revealed to Golf Channel. “I have talked to Paul, Luke, Rory and Justin and lots of the caddies.
“It feels from the outside looking in that Europe somehow gets that collective energy flowing in a better direction more often. I don’t know what that is; there are clearly great players on both teams, and sometimes one team looks more favoured than the other.
“But 18-hole match play is a different animal to 72-hole stroke play, totally. In a team environment, there is an extra energy or gear that everybody finds, but it’s that you have to get your team to find more of it. We have talked about it a lot with the guys.
“Sometimes it’s good to be the underdog, sometimes it’s good to be the favourite. You can pull advantages out of both. I think the energy from the crowd can be good energy if you use it the right way. It’s clearly going to be pretty loud the other way, but we can use it to our benefit.
“We have not cracked the code for 28 years, but we are working on it, and we feel pretty good about this team. We are excited to get going.”
The International Team will need plenty to go their way to upset the United States on home soil. In addition to creating a supportive atmosphere, key players such as Ryan Fox, Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, and Hideki Matsuyama will need to be at their best on the course.
