INEC Insists CVR Ends Today, Urges Nigerians To Register Before Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will close on Sunday, July 26 (today), urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the final opportunity to register or update their voter records.

The electoral body made the announcement in a post on X on Sunday, stressing that participation in the exercise remains a key requirement for voting in the 2027 general election.

“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the commission stated.

“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”

INEC said Nigerians who are yet to register can complete the process through its CVR portal or visit any of its state and local government offices before the exercise closes.

The commission noted that the exercise also covers voter transfer requests, correction of personal information and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The closure of the registration exercise brings to an end a nationwide voter enrollment process that has been conducted in phases over the past year.

The first phase of the CVR commenced in August 2025 with online pre-registration, while physical registration began on August 25. By the end of that phase in December, INEC had recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 completed through in-person enrollment.

A second phase of the exercise ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026, during which the commission recorded 3,748,704 completed registrations across the country.

INEC later launched the third phase of the CVR in May and subsequently extended the exercise by two weeks in July to allow more eligible citizens to participate.

With the deadline now reached, the commission advised prospective voters not to delay any further, emphasizing that voter registration is essential for citizens wishing to participate in next year’s elections.
