Indiana Fever guard Ty Harris will miss WNBA playoffs with broken leg
Veteran backup guard Ty Harris broke her left fibula in the regular-season finale against the Minnesota Lynx and will miss the remainder of this season, the team announced Saturday.
Harris suffered the break in the third quarter of a game the Fever eventually lost by 20 points, landing awkwardly on a layup attempt and immediately collapsing to the floor. Team officials had to carry Harris to the locker room after the injury.
The seventh-year guard appeared in 39 games for the Fever, starting four, and averaging 4.1 points in 13.6 minutes of action per game. Indiana almost certainly will continue to give the vast majority of its backcourt minutes to All-Star guards Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark, who respectively finished second and third in WNBA scoring this season. But losing a trusted backup with 211 career appearances is a blow, particularly in a series against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces and their assortment of backcourt stars.
Rookie Raven Johnson, who also appeared in 39 games for the Fever, likely becomes the first true guard option off the bench.
The best-of-three series between the Aces and Fever begins Sunday in Las Vegas.
