Indiana Fever coach Bri January broke down what makes her rate Caitlin Clark as one of the best passers in the WNBA.

Clark is tied for the most assists this season with Alyssa Thomas, as both players are averaging 8.4 assists per game in the 2026 season.

However, Clark is regularly called one of the best passers in the WNBA for her ability to change defenses with a pass. Now, one of her coaches has explained why Clark’s passing is such a dangerous weapon.

Fever assistant coach Bri January was asked by the media about her favorite pass from Clark this season, prompting the coach to explain the biggest tool in Clark’s arsenal that makes her so effective.

“What impresses me the most, and these are, they might be the simplest, and they are not flashy at all, but her ability to hit people on time, on target, in transition, in the pocket, in stride, in a break, is really impressive. Her ability to hit people on time is great.”

Clark is shining on the international stage with her playmaking right now, leading Team USA in assists at the 2026 FIBA World Cup with 6.3 assists per game.

Her debut at the World Cup saw her register 11 assists, and this continued excellence as a playmaker has prompted coach Kara Lawson to promote Clark into the starting five for the knockout rounds.

Clark is also the third-leading scorer in the WNBA this season, so her scoring gravity also allows her to create more open opportunities for her teammates like Kelsey Mitchell.

While Thomas has a strong claim to the title of best passer in the WNBA right now, Clark’s continued evolution on that front makes that a harder case to argue for with every passing season.

If the Fever continue adding off-ball weapons who need to thrive off Clark’s playmaking, we could see a tangible jump in her assist numbers going forward, especially with Kelsey Mitchell as the Fever’s No. 1 scorer.
