The bowling is where the questions sit. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy are all absent, leaving an attack built around Ravi Bishnoi and a pace group with barely a handful of international caps between them.

Mayank Yadav’s return is the most intriguing element. The quick has not played for India since late 2024 owing to injury, and his pace could prove decisive on a surface that offers genuine carry at 1,500 metres above sea level.

Sooryavanshi’s own examination is more technical than tactical. England exposed him repeatedly with short-pitched bowling, and how he handles Muzarabani and Ngarava, both tall and capable of extracting bounce, will reveal whether that work has been done.
