Immigration seeks police cooperation to tackle human trafficking, verify foreigners in Abia

The Controller, Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, Abia State Command, Mrs Justina Nkechi Owa, has called for greater cooperation with the Abia State Police Command in tackling human trafficking and regulating foreigners entering or residing in the state.

Mrs Owa made the call on Wednesday when she received the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, at the Immigration Command office in Umuahia.

She noted the need for proper documentation, including the use of residence permits (Brown Cards), to verify and regulate the activities of foreigners within Abia State.

The Controller reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to working closely with the Police Command to enhance security in Abia State.

She further promised that her command would provide officers to participate in the forthcoming capacity-building training programme being organised by the Abia State Police Command.

Earlier in his speech, CP Afolabi said the visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration to enhance security across Abia State.

The Commissioner of Police, who stressed that no agency could thrive in isolation, said effective security was achieved through coordination among security agencies.

He enjoined the Immigration Service to participate in the forthcoming capacity-building training programme organised by the Abia Police Command.
