Fire-guts-timber-market Ibadan: Goods, household items destroyed as fire ravages Gbaji market
Goods and household items worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged some shops in Gbaji market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Our correspondent reports that Gbaji market is located along the Ibadan/ Ife Expressway.

The incident occurred Thursday night.

DAILY POST gathered that at least eight shops were affected by the inferno.

Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.

Akinwande in a statement made available to DAILY POST Friday morning, said that no life was lost.

He explained that access to the affected area was hindered by illegal structures.

He said, “Upon arrival, the crew met some shops engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected areas.

“No casualty was recorded. However, eight (8) big shops were affected by the fire.

“The timely intervention of the agency prevented the fire from spreading further, thereby averting more extensive damage to property.

“It was, however, observed that access to the affected area was significantly hindered by illegal structures and goods obstructing the access roads within the market, making it difficult for firefighting trucks to gain free passage to the scene,” he said.
