  • Over the years, I’ve tried a lots of hacks for making the perfect scrambled eggs.
  • My new go-to method involves placing raw eggs in a boiling vortex of water and then straining them.
  • The finished scrambled eggs come out super fluffy, creamy, and perfectly cooked every time.

It sounds weird, and I was pretty reluctant when I came across this egg-cooking hack online. But once I tried it, I was converted.

For this relatively simple process, all that’s needed is eggs, salt, and boiling water

I started the process by bringing a pot of salted water to a boil, as if I were making pasta. Just as the water began to boil, I cracked some eggs into a separate bowl and whisked vigorously for about 30 seconds.

Then, it was time to make a whirlpool. To start, I stirred the water clockwise until it was swirling. While the water was still circling the pot, I poured in the whisked eggs and placed a lid over them.

I used a glass lid to cover the pot so I could watch the action unfold as the eggs quickly turned stringy.

At first, I was worried — I didn’t think eating long strands of eggs sounded particularly appealing.

After straining, these eggs came out light and fluffy with no rubbery texture

After about 20 seconds, I used a strainer to lift the eggs out of the water and into a bowl.

I had to blot a little extra water out of the eggs, but otherwise, they no longer looked stringy. To my surprise, they were actually light and fluffy.

Afterwards, I added butter, salt, and pepper to the eggs and served them over toast.

Even better, the clean-up process was minimal

Not only did the eggs come out to my liking and cook quickly, but the cleanup was pretty easy, too. There was no need to soak and scrape away caked-on scrambled eggs from a pan.

Instead, I just cleaned up a pan (that mostly held water) and a strainer.

Perfect eggs and no-fuss dishwashing? I’ll be boiling my scrambled eggs with the whirlpool trick from here on out.
