‘I think now he wants to stay’ – Spurs boss De Zerbi on the futures of midfield duo

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that he wants Lucas Bergvall to remain at the club amid uncertainty over the midfielder’s future.

Bergvall has impressed De Zerbi during pre-season, with the new Spurs head coach describing the Sweden international as a player with “top potential”.

Both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs to have expressed interest in the 20-year-old.

“Yes, yes, Bergvall, 100%,” De Zerbi said when asked about the 20-year-old.

“We spoke a lot in pre-season. He’s a top player, he’s a top potential player.

“And I would like him to stay here. But I think now he wants to stay and we have no problem.”

“Pape started the pre-season late because he stayed in Senegal, I think, until the first week, the first days in August,” he said.

“He’s a good player. I don’t know if he stays or not.

“We have to see, we have to analyse the situation. But he’s another very important player.”
