Marc Cucurella is hopeful that former Chelsea team-mate Enzo Fernandez will join him at Real Madrid this summer, amid rumours the Argentine could leave Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella completed his transfer, for a fee that could reach €60m (£51.8m), before the start of Spain’s World Cup campaign in North America.
The Spaniard is one of three arrivals in the Spanish capital so far, with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva also joining the club on free transfers.
And Madrid, who have also welcomed back Jose Mourinho ahead of the 2026-27 season, are also reportedly interested in bringing Fernandez to the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is believed that Chelsea value the 2022 World Cup winner at around £120m, with Fernandez hinting at a possible move to Madrid back in April, with his comments resulting in former boss Liam Rosenior dropping him from the squad.
And given Chelsea’s failure to secure European football for next season, they could be forced to offload some of their high-profile players, and Cucurella is hopeful that Fernandez is one of those, and that his destination will be Madrid.
“He’s a great player and a friend of mine,” Cucurella said. “He congratulated me on the signing. I hope it happens.
“I would be very happy. We were very happy at Chelsea, and to have the opportunity to both sign for Real Madrid in the same summer…
“I hope he’s lucky and becomes a Real Madrid player.”
Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a reported £106m (€121m) and has gone on to become a key player for the Blues.
The 25-year-old has made 169 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 31 goals as well as providing 29 assists, along with winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup under Enzo Maresca.
He played 61 times across all competitions in 2025-26, registering 26 goal involvements (16 goals, 10 assists), a tally only Joao Pedro (29) could better for Chelsea.
Chelsea are, of course, preparing for life under Xabi Alonso next season, with the former Madrid boss appointed back in May after Calum McFarlane oversaw the remainder of their campaign following Rosenior’s dismissal. Maresca was previously sacked at the start of January.
It has been reported that Chelsea are set to make Atalanta defender Marco Palestra their first signing under Alonso, for a fee in excess of £43m.
Malo Gusto is also reportedly exploring his options to leave Stamford Bridge, with the club placing a £75m price tag on the full-back.
