Hull City targets Mert Kömür after positive talks with his camp

Hull City has held positive talks with representatives of FC Augsburg midfielder Mert Kömür, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The newly promoted Premier League club is working on a deal and has already received a positive response during discussions with Kömür’s camp. The 21-year-old is reportedly open to a new challenge, but negotiations between the clubs have not started yet.

Hull’s approach for Kömür is one of the more interesting developments in the latest transfer news, but it should still be considered a transfer rumor.

Kömür has a contract that gives Augsburg a strong negotiating position. In July 2025, the German club announced that the attacking midfielder had signed a new deal running until June 2029.

He joined Augsburg’s academy in 2019 and began training with the senior team when he was only 16. Kömür made his Bundesliga debut at 18 in April 2024 before scoring against Bayer Leverkusen on his first senior start during the final round of the 2023/24 season.

The midfielder became a more regular first-team player during the following campaigns and has already produced several impressive moments against Germany’s strongest club. Kömür scored against Bayern Munich in August 2025 and later provided the equalizing assist when Augsburg recorded a surprise 2-1 victory in Munich in January 2026.

Kömür can play as an attacking midfielder and would give Hull City a young player with senior experience in the Bundesliga. A move would also represent a major step for Kömür, who has never played outside Germany.

Hull City has already been active following its Premier League return, but Kömür’s long contract means the club may need to make a substantial offer before Augsburg is prepared to negotiate.
