Hull City have broken their club-record transfer fee once again this summer after announcing the arrival of Rayo Vallecano left-back Nobel Mendy.
Mendy has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Hull, and while a fee was not disclosed, it exceeds the reported £20m they paid for Konstantinos Tzolakis last week.
The 21-year-old impressed during his only season with Vallecano in 2025-26, making 28 appearances across all competitions, 23 of which came from the start.
He ranked second in Vallecano’s squad for aerial duels won (41), while only Florian Lejeune (316) made more clearances in all competitions for the club than Mendy’s 163.
Mendy is Hull’s eighth addition ahead of their first Premier League campaign since 2016-17, and he said he had realised his dream of having the opportunity to play in England’s top tier.
“I am very happy to be here and very proud to be here as well,” Mendy told Hull’s website.
“I am a very athletic player, and I am a defender at heart. I also really enjoy the game and coming out from the back cleanly and aggressively when needed.
“I have wanted to play in the Premier League since I was little, so it’s a great challenge to face, and I am ready for it.
“This season is going to be a good season, and we will all be in it together.”

Mendy’s arrival adds further quality to Hull’s defence, having played a major role in helping Vallecano reach the Conference League final, where they lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace.
But Mendy was not the only signing announced by Hull on Wednesday, with the club also confirming the transfer of teenager Lucas Herrington from the Colorado Rapids.
Herrington made history at this summer’s World Cup for Australia, becoming the youngest player to start a knockout match for his nation in FIFA’s flagship competition.
However, he missed the decisive penalty in that clash, hitting the woodwork as Australia were beaten 4-2 on spot-kicks by Egypt in the last 32 of the tournament.
Tzolakis, Jack Butland, Oscar Zambrano, Matt Targett, Hidemasa, Jens Hjerto-Dahl and Elliot Stroud have also already made the move to the MKM Stadium this summer.
Hull owner Acun Ilicali has been extremely open about the Tigers’ transfer business this summer, and he posted more clues on social media about some more impending arrivals.
Ilicali posted a picture of a Senegal flag and an Australia flag, confirming Mendy and Herrington’s arrivals before they were announced by the club, with that also accompanied by a French flag, signalling a move for Red Bull Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath is edging closer to completion.
