Details emerged on Friday about how a female doctor at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara State was assaulted by the father of a two-year old male child who died in the paediatric emergency ward of the hospital while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.
DAILY POST gathered that the father of the child, identified as Emmanuel Olatunji, allegedly dropped the sick child in the ward with the mother and left for two hours without providing money for admission pack for the treatment of the child.
On humanitarian ground, the assaulted female doctor rescued the situation and provided the admission pack from her pocket to ensure prompt attention for the sick child.
However, the child could not make it as he died during the treatment in the ward.
The father of the child who showed up at the ward on hearing the news reportedly pounced on the female doctor and assaulted her, he was arrested, while the female doctor is responding to treatment.
The development led to a five-day strike by medical doctors in the hospital which started on Wednesday.
DAILY POST further gathered that at least four patients on admission were reported to have died since the strike commenced.
Medical doctors protested on Thursday to demand justice for the assaulted female doctor and warned the public against future occurrence.
Efforts to reach hospital authorities on the incident were not successful at the time of this report on Friday.
