The game marks a new era for both programs, as William & Mary and Villanova are beginning their first seasons in the Patriot League after leaving the CAA. William & Mary enters the year having posted five consecutive winning seasons, while the Tribe has also had recent success in this series, winning four of its last six meetings with Villanova.
Villanova provides a difficult opening test after an impressive 2025 campaign in which the Wildcats went 12-3 and advanced to the FCS semifinals. Villanova also won last year’s meeting with William & Mary, 31-24, giving the Tribe an immediate opportunity to answer that defeat while both teams begin their pursuit of a Patriot League title. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET on Friday, August 28, from Villanova Stadium, with the game streaming on ESPN+.
