Philadelphia enters the matchup with a 2-6-3 record after a difficult start to the 2026-27 season. The Flyers went winless in their first nine games before turning things around with consecutive victories over the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche.
Matvei Michkov has provided a much-needed spark for Philadelphia’s offense, scoring six goals through the team’s first 11 games, including four in his last three appearances. The young forward has emerged as one of the Flyers’ biggest offensive threats as the team looks to build momentum following its slow start.
The Flyers are coming off a 3-2 victory over Colorado on Monday, giving them their second straight win after defeating Ottawa 3-1 over the weekend. Philadelphia will now look to carry that momentum into Buffalo against a Sabres team that has been difficult to put away.
Buffalo enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 4-3-2 record and has earned points in four consecutive games. The Sabres are coming off an overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens but have shown resilience throughout the opening weeks of the season, repeatedly overcoming multi-goal deficits to stay competitive.
Jack Quinn has been one of Buffalo’s early standouts, recording nine points through nine games, including five goals and four assists. Tage Thompson has also been a key contributor to the Sabres’ offense, while defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is expected to return after missing three games with an upper-body injury.
Buffalo could also receive another boost with veteran forward Jason Zucker expected to make his season debut following offseason recovery from sports hernia surgery.
Philadelphia continues to deal with several injuries, including Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen. The Flyers will need continued production from Michkov and their younger players to overcome those absences against a Buffalo team looking to improve its early-season record.
The Sabres have enjoyed recent success against Philadelphia, scoring at least four goals in seven of their last 10 meetings. Buffalo will look to continue that trend in front of its home crowd, while the Flyers aim to secure their third consecutive victory.
