Florida football is set to finally kick off its 2026 season this week.

First-year coach Jon Sumrall will make his debut against Florida Atlantic.

Sumrall’s previous coaching stops were at Troy and Tulane, where he held a combined record of 43-12. In his final season at Tulane, Sumrall led the Green Wave to the AAC title and an appearance to the College Football Playoff.

Last season, the Gators finished 4-8, and former head coach Billy Napier was fired midseason. UF returns star running back Jadan Baugh, who became the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2015. On the defensive side, Florida returns its top two tacklers, Myles Graham and Bryce Thornton.

Florida Atlantic also comes off a 4-8 season. Notably, Sumrall’s Green Wave defeated the Owls 35-24 last year.

Leading the FAU offense is quarterback Caden Veltkamp, who threw for 3,641 yards, 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Florida kicks off against FAU at 7:45 p.m. E.T. on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Florida’s opener against Florida Atlantic will be televised on the SEC Network. The game can also be streamed on Fubo, which offers a free trial to new subscribers. Matt Schumaker and Aaron Murray will be on the call, while Taylor Davis will be the sideline reporter.
