Cristian Chivu started the new Serie A season as he means to go and takes his team to Cagliari in Week 2 on Sunday, hoping for more of the same. A 4-1 humbling of Monza last Saturday gave the reigning champions an ideal start to the campaign, with only Roma sitting ahead of the Nerazzurri entering this weekend’s games.
Young talents Pio Esposito and Andy Diouf were each part of a big win over Monza after impressing for Chivu’s side over the summer. Esposito scored and assisted in the triumph, while Diouf picked up two assists to suggest Inter icon Chivu has been correct to place his faith in the pair.
Alessandro Romano’s late finish was all that stood between Cagliari and host Parma last weekend as the Islanders came up with a deserved three points on the road. New signing Alieu Fadera has trained with his new club for the first time this week and could be a part of the squad that hopes to stage a surprise over Inter in its home debut for the season.
The Nerazzurri have won their last four in a row against Cagliari and are unbeaten in this rivalry since March 2019 (13 meetings). Three second-half goals secured a 3-0 win at the San Siro last time these teams faced off in April, with Esposito looking to do damage at the Unipol Domus again after scoring off the bench when Inter last traveled here in September 2025.
