The New York Mets are on the outside looking in at a postseason spot. 

That could be the case for the remainder of the season if they cannot find a way to collect more wins than losses against their tough NL East opponents. 

ESPN’s Bradford Doolittle smartly pointed out that the Mets will play 18 combined games against two rivals in June and July.

“On the flip side, the schedule is not forgiving,” Doolittle wrote. “Of the Mets’ 47 remaining games before the deadline, they have nine against the Phillies, nine more against the Braves, three at Toronto, three at Milwaukee, and three at home against the Dodgers.” 

How they fare against the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves could determine their approach at the trade deadline. 

The Mets and president of baseball operations David Stearns came into the season with extremely high hopes and World Series aspirations.

A 12-game losing streak in April shocked the organization and the fanbase. Are the Mets severely underperforming? Or is this who they are? 

One things for sure. New York’s toughness and ability to forget what happened earlier this season will be tested this summer by NL East opponents. 

Juan Soto and the Mets will have to rise to the occasion to avoid a disaster of a year in Queens.
