Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman seems to impact winning everywhere he goes.
That’s one of the main reasons the Boston Red Sox wanted to re-sign the two-time World Series champion and three-time All-Star.
Bregman provided valuable veteran leadership for younger Red Sox players, like outfielder Roman Anthony.
Now, Bregman is having a similar effect with Chicago’s core, specifically MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong.
“In addition to the typically Bregman-esque defense at the hot corner (+8 Outs Above Average) and an OPS+ more than 20% better than league average, the Cubs’ veteran offseason addition has been lauded for his clubhouse presence,” MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince wrote.
“The mentorship he provided Pete Crow-Armstrong early in the year about plate approach and swing decisions helped unleash PCA’s MVP-worthy year,” Castrovince added.
Whatever Bregman told Crow-Armstrong has clearly worked.

PCA is the leading candidate for the NL MVP, hitting 42 home runs while leading the league with a .566 slugging percentage and 154 OPS+.
The outfielder’s chase rate remains below league average, but PCA’s improved swing decisions have helped him become one of the best hitters in baseball.
Clearly, Bregman deserves some credit for helping “unleash” one of the game’s top stars.
