Hornets qualify for 7on7 state tournament
THE WOODLANDS — The Huntsville 7on7 squad extended its season after competing in The Woodlands State Qualifying Tournament last Friday.
The Hornets battled through a four-team pool, where they advanced to the qualifying round. Huntsville fell to The Woodlands in the opening round, but went 2-0 against Caney Creek and Oak Ridge in the rest of pool play.
Huntsville knocked off Caney Creek 25-0 before the 26-20 win over Oak Ridge. The Hornets then advanced to the championship game to play for a state bid.
In the final, Huntsville was matched up against Klein Oak. The Hornets tabbed the SQT bid with the 18-6 win over Klein Oak. Atascocita took the other state bid from the tournament.
Now, the Hornets will compete in the DI portion of the 7on7 tournament at Veterans Park in Bryan. The tournament is scheduled for June 26 and the 27th.
