We were all expecting a lopsided affair on Friday night, but I’m not sure anyone anticipated the sort of lopsided affair that involves breaking century-old records and setting multiple Carter-Finley Stadium records. Over 700 yards of offense, over 400 rushing yards, 10 different guys with at least one carry—seven of them with at least one carry over 10 yards—were just some of the many astounding numbers put up by NC State’s offense.
All of this wasn’t even in a 60-minute game, since the two teams agreed to shorten the fourth quarter to 10 minutes, because the carnage was just that bad. Injuries perhaps had taken a heavier toll on Richmond heading into this game than we realized.
The bonus was getting a very heavy dose of reserves throughout the second half, and getting to watch those guys make plays. The points just kept on coming because Richmond kept on blowing assignments and missing tackles.
