Davis may be one of the hungriest teams in 6A due to how last season ended.
The Darts had a fantastic team, headlined by 2025 Mr. Football Tradon Bessinger and wide receiver phenom Bode Sparrow. They battled in the 6A quarterfinals and dragged Lone Peak to double overtime.
Despite Davis’ efforts, Lone Peak eked out a 41-38 win.
That’s been the nature of the past few years in Utah high school football. While Lone Peak, Skyridge and Corner Canyon have dominated, Davis has been right there waiting for its chance.
“We’ve been knocking at the door for four years now, and it’s time to get over that hump,” said Davis head coach Scott Peery. “It’s been a bad taste in the mouth all offseason. There’s been a big emphasis on getting over that hump.”
Region 1 coaches unanimously agreed that Davis will repeat as region champs, but Peery is adamant about taking it a step further. To his credit, the Darts have the firepower to do it, especially with arguably the best player in the state in Sparrow.
Sparrow is an Oklahoma commit and reigning 6A player of the year. In his junior year, he pulled in 1,218 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, all in just 83 receptions.
He was also dominant in the secondary as he tallied 71 tackles, seven interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.
Sparrow isn’t the only one, as Utah commit Jaxton Itaaheau also returns. Itaaheau was named to the 6A All-State Second Team after pulling in 951 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He also added five touchdowns on the ground.
While Davis won’t have back its star QB, it still plans to keep up the air-raid style offense with out-of-state transfer Brodie Scheinberg stepping in, and Scheinberg has all the makings of a star.
Scheinberg is a junior, but played his sophomore year at national powerhouse St. John Bosco. In his sophomore year, he played eight games and threw for 422 yards and four touchdowns with a 64% completion percentage.
247 Sports lists him as a 3-star prospect, and he holds scholarship offers from Minnesota, Purdue, Syracuse, SMU, Oregon State, UNLV and Boise State.
“Brodie’s come in and he’s got a high football IQ,” Peery said. “Then, it’s just a matter of getting comfortable with the offense and settling in and just knowing all the ins and outs, being a first-year guy in the system.
“But he’s done really well, adapted well, and just as of late things are clicking and, and I like how things are going with him.”
With Scheinberg, Sparrow and Itaaheau, Davis has all the makings of a lethal offense. Peery believes this could be the team to finally take them all the way.
“I do believe this team can do it,” said Peery. “There’s a lot of potential there. There’s a lot of firepower there, so now it’s just a matter of getting in a groove and making sure we improve from Week 1 to hopefully Week 14.”
Finishing second in the region projections is Syracuse. The Titans had a decent 2025 season, finishing with a 7-4 record and tied for second in Region 1.
While Syracuse returns only three offensive starters, it already has a leg up at QB with Ledger Wight returning. This will be Wight’s third year starting at QB for the Titans. He ended his junior campaign with 1,785 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns and 12 rushing touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Titans will be much more experienced on their defense. Headlining the defense is junior lineman and 6A all-state first-team member Mulivai Pula.
6A all-state second-team safety Kaleb Hall also returns after tallying 66 tackles and four interceptions a year ago.

“Defensively, the Titans return six starters and will look to get back to playing defense at a high level. Kaleb Hall will lead the defense.”
Farmington finished third in this year’s coaches poll. Second-year head coach David Fiefia looks to improve on the Phoenix’s 5-6 record a year ago.
Unfortunately for Farmington, it’ll have to replace much of its production from a year ago, especially offensively.
Defensively, they’ll have a bit more continuity, but Fiefia knows his team has to work hard this year to improve.
“As I move into my second year at Farmington, it’s about building on the foundation we laid last season,” said Fiefia. “With only a few returning starters on both sides of the ball, we’re looking for underclassmen to fill in the gaps that our solid senior class vacated. They’ve been grinding this offseason and are ready for their opportunity to step up for the team.”
Weber was voted to finish fourth, and third-year head coach Mo Cannon says he is excited about the returners he has this year.
Firstly, junior quarterback Carter Payne after starting his sophomore year. As a sophomore, Payne threw for 1,977 yards on a 61% completion percentage. He also had a 17:8 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The Warriors will also have their top receiver back in Creed Devries. Devries pulled in 817 receiving yards while scoring nine touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Weber also returns six defensive starters. Safety Carson Hill will be back after tallying 84 tackles and three interceptions last year.
“We are excited about the upcoming year,” Cannon said. “We have some talent returning that we are high on and some guys that are stepping into roles that we are juiced about. It will be a year of continued growth and competing for 48 minutes. Can’t wait to see what our offseason produces.”
Finishing last in the poll is Layton. The Lancers are coming off a rough year where they finished with a 3-9 record. They also ended last in Region 1 with a 0-4 region record. Layton also has an 8-26 record for the past three seasons.
Head coach Trevor Thomas is optimistic about turning things around.
“Our seniors have done a great job setting the standard in the weight room, spring, and summer workouts,” Thomas said. “Our schedule will challenge us every week, and our players are up for the challenge and competing week in and week out.”

The 1998 Deseret News Mr. Football recipient, David Fiefia is heading into his second season as head coach at Farmington after a 5-6 inaugural campaign. A Hunter High and Utah State alum, prior to taking over at Farmington he was an assistant coach at Weber state and Idaho State.

As I move into my 2nd year at Farmington, it’s about building on the foundation we laid last season. With only a few returning starters on both sides of the ball, we’re looking for underclassman to fill in the gaps that our solid senior class vacated. They’ve been grinding this offseason and are ready for their opportunity to step up for the team.
Offensively, we’ll getting the ball into our playmakers hands by establishing the run, playing with multiple personnel groups and spreading the ball around to a young but talented wide receiver group.
Defensively, we strive to make discipline, toughness and physicality our points of emphasis as we bring a solid group of players back on that side of the ball.
We will continue to play great special teams to help give us an edge in winning football games. Overall, I feel good about where we’re currently at, but good isn’t good enough to make a run at a championship, so we will continue to put our heads down and go to work.

Our seniors have done a great job setting the standard in the weight room, spring, and summer workouts. Our schedule will challenge us every week and our players are up for the challenge, and competing week in and week out. We do not return a lot of starters or varsity experience. We do return 4 of our 5 offensive lineman from last year. This will help our offense with some of the younger guys we will be playing. On the defensive side some of those offensive lineman will have to play on the defensive side as well. Our kids are very excited for the season , and they’re eager to see their hard work in the weight room, and practice field pay off on Friday nights.
