Teams across the Lansing area and Michigan kick off the new high school football season today, Thursday, Aug. 27. Friday night lights, as is typical in Michigan, will have to wait a couple weeks until after the Labor Day holiday.

Or at least until Michigan State opens its season Friday, Sept. 4 at home against Toledo.
