While it’s officially the offseason for the Golden State Valkyries, most of the team is doing anything but taking time off from basketball.

Top WNBA players often compete year-round, traveling across the world at times to play for teams that can sometimes pay them a higher salary than they make in the league. While there have been domestic ventures aiming to keep players in the United States during the offseason, the fact remains that the grind as a professional women’s basketball player hardly stops.

But that’s good news for the fans who are undoubtedly itching to see their favorite players, and newly minted champions, take the floor again as soon as possible.

There are five Valkyries players who plan to remain stateside for Unrivaled, a three-on-three women’s basketball league founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, who is rumored to be a free agent target for Golden State. The league plays its regular season on a touring-style schedule throughout different arenas across the country, and two games are even scheduled to take place on Jan. 11 at Chase Center. Gabby Williams is scheduled to play for the Laces (and be joined by her partner, Marine Johannes), Kaitlyn Chen for the Breeze (alongside her former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers), Veronica Burton for the Mist, Tiffany Hayes for the Phantom and Kayla Thornton for the Rose. Kaila Charles is also slated to to play in Unrivaled, though she’s one of six in the “player pool” that will be used to help fill in for injuries on other rosters.

Then there’s the overseas contingency. Rookie Juste Jocyte is signed to compete in the international basketball league startup Project B. The women’s league, which has attracted a fair amount of WNBA talent, is scheduled to begin in China in January and to play their games in cities around the world like Tokyo and Valencia, Spain. Cecilia Zandalasini plans to head back home to compete for Italian team Schio. Janelle Salaun, the reigning Sixth Player of the Year and most prominent player to miss the San Francisco parade, is signed up to play for Galatasaray in Turkey. Aminata Gueye signed a deal in June to play for Czech team ZVVZ USK Praha.

Development players Ashten Prechtel and Miela Sowah are also both playing internationally. Prechtel is currently competing in Japan for Eneos Sunflowers, which caused her to also miss Wednesday’s parade, and Sowah is scheduled to compete in Australia for the Townsville Fire.

The three unknowns as of Thursday afternoon are Laeticia Amihere, Kiah Stokes and Iliana Rupert, although Rupert missed this past season because of her pregnancy. Rupert last played for Fenerbahce in Turkey, where she won EuroLeague Women last year, and Amihere last played abroad in 2025 with Uni Girona CB. Stokes’ last international stint was also with Fenerbahce, but that was in 2024. She played in the Athletes Unlimited league last offseason and hasn’t publicly indicated where (or if) she will play this offseason.
