Philip Rivers is one of the top contenders to become the NC State Wolfpack head coach after the program parted ways with Dave Doeren, and it seems everyone can see this partnership coming.
John Middlekauff made a bold claim on X about the potential partnership, suggesting Rivers would be named NC State head coach “by next week.”
“My high school football coach was a math teacher who drove a mid 80’s Camaro. These kids got Philip Rivers (he’ll be named the NC State coach next week be my guess),” he wrote.
Rivers is currently managing the St. Michael Catholic High School football program, but their journey this season ended with a 42-35 defeat to Glenwood High in Alabama, further raising suspicion that Rivers and NC State could be reaching an agreement very soon.
Rivers Confirmed That He and NC State Met With a Word on the Future
After his team’s defeat to Glenwood High, Rivers addressed rumors of a possible move to NC State, and his words suggested the two parties are still in discussions.
“I don’t know that. It has been a heck of a six years, I know that. Just trying to be where my feet are right now. Really was looking forward to this playoff run and it all comes to an end tonight. We’ll see what the future holds,” he told reporters.
He also confirmed that he met with NC State officials and the meeting went well.
“We met and visited,” Rivers admitted. “I’ve known some of those guys for a while now. It was good to visit with them, but there’s really nothing else to report at this point.”
“If it were to be the last time out here, a lot was accomplished,” Rivers went on. “Certainly, if that were to be the case, it will be left better than it was six years ago.”
Meanwhile, NC State plays Duke on Saturday.
