Harry Kane’s scoring success motivates him to catch Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo

During the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane scored 36 goals, matching his previous high from the 2023/24 season. He recorded four hat tricks and six braces in his stellar year. In both seasons, his career highs resulted in the Englishman earning the European Golden Shoe, an award presented to the top scorer across the top divisions in their respective domestic league.

In a distant second place, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scored 27 goals. Technically, a player from one of the smaller leagues (like Dinamo Zagreb’s Dion Drena Beljo) can score more goals but lose the award due to the weighted calculation. However, Kane did not require that asterisk for either of his winning years.

In a recent interview with L’Équipe (via @iMiaSanMia), Kane opened up about winning his second Golden Shoe.

“It’s a source of pride,” said Kane. “Especially since I believe only Ronaldo and Messi have won this award more than twice…I like using that kind of benchmark as motivation. That being said, with an award like the European Golden Shoe, it’s important to remember that none of it would have been possible without my teammates, my club’s staff, and all the people who help me every day. A large part of my success belongs to them.”

Kane is correct that only Ronaldo (4) and Messi (6) have won the European Golden Shoe more than two times. Kane now sits in a 10-way tie for third place, including Bayern legends Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski.

The current betting odds show Kane as a heavy favorite (-600) to win a fourth consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot and will he likely feature as the leading candidate to claim his third European Golden Shoe.
