Harry Kane will have a chance to tie Peter Shilton’s record number of England appearances when the Three Lions host Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel’s side started their UEFA Nations League campaign with six points from three games, with their only defeat coming at the same venue against reigning world champions Spain.
The FC Bayern striker found the net in all three games as he now has 36 more goals than England’s second-best goalscorer Wayne Rooney. The 33-year-old made his 124th cap in the 7-0 win over Croatia on Saturday.
If he plays against Czechia on Tuesday, Kane will match Shilton’s record as the most appearance maker. The legendary goalkeeper played for England from 1970 to 1990.
In contrast, the current captain is about to surpass Shilton’s record with a little over a decade from his debut. Kane made his first England appearance in March 2015 when Roy Hodgson’s side beat Lithuania 4-0 at Wembley. After replacing Rooney, he scored 79 seconds into his debut for his first of 89 international goals.
While Germany’s new coach Jürgen Klopp decided to play the extended international break with two squads, Kane is set to start all four games for England. The Ballon d’Or nominee scored 31 goals for England since completing his move to the Rekordmeister.
