The Harrison sophomore made that approach pay off Saturday, June 6 in a rain delayed IHSAA state meet at North Central High School.
Clopton earned two podium finishes in the hurdles races, highlighting five Lafayette area all-state honorees on the day.
Clopton placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 38.24 seconds and eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.49 seconds.
Frankfort junior Owen Hudspith matched his regional-winning height in the pole vault, placing third by clearing 16 feet to earn his second podium finish at the state meet in as many seasons.
Harrison’s 3,200 relay team of Evan Lottes, Jonathan King, Ossama Belal and River Bender opened the running portion of the meet with a seventh-place finish in 7:45.76, and the McCutcheon 1,600 relay team of Kaiden Konkle, Jaymar Johnson, Andrew Weinman and Kamarion Ayres closed the meet finishing eighth in 3:20.80.
Seeger senior Landon Dispennett just missed a podium finish in the 400 meters by .08 of a second, finishing 10th in 48.74 seconds.
Other area competitors included: West Lafayette’s 1,600 relay (13th), Harrison’s 400 relay (19th), Ayres (13th in 300 hurdles, 19th in 110 hurdles), Ethan Landess, West Lafayette (15th, 200), Hunter Lehe, Faith Christian (19th, 800), David Warner, Harrison (21st, pole vault), Jacob Schwartz, Harrison (26th, long jump) and Elijah Curry, McCutcheon (28th, 100).
