Coventry City have re-signed playmaker Gustavo Hamer ahead of their Premier League return.

After missing out on promotion to the Premier League in the Championship play-off final in 2023, Hamer left Coventry for Sheffield United.

The Brazilian, who scored Coventry’s goal against Luton Town at Wembley in that play-off showdown, before seeing the Sky Blues lose on penalties, made 126 second-tier appearances for the club between 2020 and 2023, scoring 19 goals and providing 22 assists.

He played 36 times for Sheffield United in the Premier League in 2023-24, scoring four times and creating six goals.

Over the past two seasons, Hamer has featured in 81 Championship matches, and ranks fourth in the division for chances created in that time (145), and joint-third for goal involvements (35).

Now, the 29-year-old has penned a long-term deal with Coventry, and he is delighted to be back and preparing for a Premier League campaign.

“I’m buzzing, it’s the move I wanted to make,” said Hamer.

“To go to the Premier League with Coventry was something I always dreamt of, so when the club came back in for me, it was very special. I’m very happy.

“The love I got from the fans was amazing, so the only thing I can give back to them is goals, assists and a good performance, so that’s what I will try to do.

“Of course, you can’t score or give an assist every game but what I can do is give 100 per cent for the badge, for the club and for the fans.”

Frank Lampard’s team open up the Premier League season against reigning champions Arsenal on August 21.
