Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen Season 3 Reunites Two LOTR Stars Amid Major Location Change

The Gentlemen franchise began with the 2019 cult hit, which then transitioned into a major success on Netflix. Season 1 debuted with incredible success and reached 12.2 million global views in just four days. The series brought British aristocracy into the criminal underworld as Eddie Halstead (played by Theo James) inherits the family estate and an enormous criminal empire hidden on his property. As the money piles up, so do the dangers that lie in wait to bring the entire business to its knees.
The departure of Daniel Ings was a huge shock for fans of Guy Ritchie’s crime drama. However, Netflix is returning to action for The Gentlemen season 3 with an even bigger cast, including Robert Carlyle (Hack), alongside Hollywood stars Elijah Wood (Yellowjackets) and Orlando Bloom (The Cut), Dexter Fletcher (Band of Brothers), and Bruna Marquezine (Blue Beetle), plus Ed Speleers (You), Saffron Burrows (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), and Bugzy Malone (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre).

Wood and Bloom are reuniting on screen ahead of Wood’s return to the Shire in Andy Serkis’s The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Both actors starred in Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy adaptations that took the world by storm and still stand the test of time.
Netflix also revealed that The Gentlemen season 3 is currently being filmed in the UK and Morocco. Ritchie commented on the upcoming season and shared, “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.” Season 3 will continue the trend of eight episodes with James, Scodelario, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, and more returning.

The news of The Gentlemen‘s new cast arrives after Ings, who portrayed Freddy Halstead, shockingly revealed his departure from the series following season 2’s brutal finale. Ings spoke in an interview with HATC Magazine and said:
“I’m not in the next one. So that’s a fun sense of closure. I kind of see it as closure for the character in a way; it just ends as this wild, broken, crazy, you know. I don’t know, probably mumbling into the ether somewhere in the British countryside. It was a fun way to kind of cap off the character. You don’t want to keep playing the same game with the audience of this guy kind of comedically messing things up for them. So it was an interesting challenge to take him in a different direction at the end. I thought it was fun.”

At the time of writing, it was unclear how Ritchie and the writers would end Freddy’s story on the show, but due to the shocking climax, it could end in another tragedy for the Halstead family.
Netflix has yet to confirm The Gentlemen season 3’s release date, but seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now.
