Clayface Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play

Warning: Contains spoilers for Clayface!DC Studios’ Clayface includes a great soundtrack filled with songs to set the right mood for the R-rated Batman villain origin story. Directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil), the film is the third to come from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

The DCU films have so far included notable soundtracks, with Supergirl‘s final needle drop sparking debate. While Clayface is a body horror comic book movie, that doesn’t mean it can’t have all types of music, too. The song choices aren’t just to add more horror vibes, as they are used to speak to the emotional journey that Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) undergoes after a life-changing incident.

Overall, there are 10 songs included in Clayface‘s soundtrack, featuring recognizable musicians and bands like David Bowie, Dianna Ross, and Chicago. Each selected piece of music works wonderfully within the specific scenes they accompany.

“Golden Years” by David Bowie: The first song on Clayface‘s soundtrack comes almost right away. Early on, Matt is riding in his car to Imperial Pictures and running through his dialogue for scenes he needs to film. David Bowie’s 1976 rock song “Golden Years” from his Station to Station album plays through the car speakers.

“Baddy On the Floor” by Jamie xx & Honey Dijon: After earning an Oscar nomination, Matt and his friends go to a nightclub to celebrate. Once the doors open, Jamie xx’s 2024 electronic song “Baddy on the Floor” featuring Honey Dijon is heard blasting in the club as Matt and his posse party.

“Ohh La La” by Goldfrapp: During their time at the nightclub, the song switches to Goldfrapp’s 2005 song “Oh La La” when Matt lays eyes on Mia Torres. The music continues to play throughout their first interaction, concluding with a kiss, with the song stopping once the movie cuts to them waking up in Matt’s apartment.

“I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” by Dianna Ross & The Supremes, The Temptations: Clayface takes a break from the songs until its time for Matt and Caitlyn to meet. In a piece of foreshadowing, the movie uses Dianna Ross’ “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” as the background music while Caitlyn runs experiments and Matt travels to meet her and offer himself for human trials of her experimental AI-nanobot technology.

“If You Leave Me Now” by Chicago: The next song in Clayface comes when it’s time for Caitlyn to begin operating on Matt. Chicago’s 1976 song “If You Leave Me Now” off their Chicago X album plays during the procedure, with Matt asking if it is meant to calm him down. Caitlyn says it is actually for her.

“Beggin’ (Pilooski Re-Edit)” by Frankie Valli: Once his face is fully healed, Matt wants to show everyone his dramatic transformation, leading him to the red carpet premiere for a project he was let go from after his accident. “Beggin'” plays as he takes pictures with his replacement and planned co-star, as well as his reunion with his former manager.

“Kill Dem” by Jamie xx: The next song in Clayface comes as Matt takes his talents to the basketball court. Jamie xx’s “Kill Dem” is heard as the pickup game unfolds outside. The music, and the game, come to a halt after Matt takes a hard hit and busts his lip open on the pavement, which leads to discovering his healing powers.

“People Were Dancing” by Keys n Krates & Rimarkable: The movie goes free of any songs for a long stretch after this, with the music only returning as Clayface‘s ending really starts. Matt transforms into Sal so he can infiltrate Markos Szabo’s club to finally get his last piece of revenge on those who wronged him. “People Were Dancing” plays as Matt/Sal enters the club.

“Do Your Stuff (Star Creature Remix)” by Perk Badger: As Matt’s time as Sal in the club continues, the playlist switches to “Do Your Stuff.” This comes as Matt starts to let the gangsters know that he is there, leading to a fight full of Matt’s shapeshifting abilities taking place.

“If You Leave Me Now” by Jasmine Jethwa: Prior to Clayface‘s credits rolling, the movie adds one more song with “If You Leave Me Now.” The last song on Clayface‘s soundtrack is heard as Caitlyn reads about Matt’s death but wonders if he is still alive. She then encounters a homeless man, who is Matt in disguise.
