Guirassy phenomenon: Only Kane and Mbappe ahead of the Dortmund striker

With his 20th and 21st goals in this competition for BVB, the 30-year-old Guinean striker fired his team to a 2-1 away win at Sabah FC. He was in the right place at the right time to poach the opener, then demonstrated his timing and technique with the winner. Joey Veerman, who supplied the cross, was impressed: “Even though he always has two players marking him, he’s really dangerous on crosses. He’s a really good striker for us.”

The numbers back that up. Since the start of the 2024/25 season, only Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, 28) and Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid, 24) have scored more UEFA Champions League goals than Serhou Guirassy (21). That puts him ahead of Erling Haaland (Manchester City, 20) and Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint-Germain/FC Barcelona, 19).

Guirassy was once again Borussia’s match-winner. His formula sounds simple: “If you want to win a game, you have to score goals. And that’s exactly what we did. Of course, we could have scored more goals today, but ultimately we’re happy with the win.”Boris Rupert
