Sometimes, a player just needs an opportunity.

That looks to be what’s happening for Greg Dulcich, the tight end for the Miami Dolphins.

Yes, it’s important to note that it’s June, and no one has ever caught a regular season touchdown or won a fantasy football championship at the start of the summer.

But right now, Dulcich is looking like a name to know.

The Dolphins lost a lot of pass-catching talent this offseason, but they brought in a new QB, Malik Willis.

Willis didn’t know these guys, and he had to determine during workouts who he trusted.

All indications are that Willis built an immediate bond in the passing game with Dulcich, the long-haired tight end previously of the Denver Broncos.

“Dolphins fans might remember Dulcich’s late-season contributions, but he has emerged this spring as one of the primary targets in Miami’s passing game,” ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques wrote as part of a new article on Monday. “Quarterback Malik Willis has an entirely new group of skill players to build chemistry with, but during team drills, there was clear trust in Dulcich, who was one of the best tight ends in the league last season at making plays after the catch. He returned from injured reserve in Week 8 and finished the season averaging the second-most yards after catch per reception (7.6) in that span.”

It’s that yards after catch average for Dulcich that makes him especially intriguing, to the Dolphins and to Willis and even to fantasy football drafters.

Because Dulcich can make plays with the ball in his hands, he’s not entirely dependent on getting open down field and being given an accurate feed.

The Dolphins can spend time simply getting the ball to Dulcich in a little bit of space and letting him go to work.

Dulcich can make athletic catches down the field, too, so he won’t be a one-trick pony. But he does provides some quality options for the Dolphins to choose from within his skillset.
