‘Great player’ – US President, Donald Trump hails World Cup star, Kane

United States President, Donald Trump, has expressed his admiration for England striker, Harry Kane following the Three Lions’ advancement to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kane successfully converted a penalty in the second half, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico. 

This goal increased Kane’s tally in the tournament to six, placing him just one goal behind Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi in the competition for the Golden Boot.

In a post-match statement, Donald Trump praised the Bayern Munich striker, declaring him a ‘great player’.

“Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!” Trump shared on Truth Social.

Kane has now achieved the highest number of goals by a European player in major international tournaments (World Cup & Euro) since his debut for England. 

He has been involved in a total of 81 goals across 63 appearances for both club and country in the 2025-26 season, comprising 73 goals and 8 assists.

The Bayern Munich striker is also on the brink of breaking another World Cup record held by Gary Lineker for England. 

After surpassing Lineker to become England’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, Kane is now tied with the former Everton and Barcelona player for the most goals scored in World Cup knockout rounds for England (6).

For England, they became the first team to defeat Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in the tournament’s history. 

Prior to Sunday’s last-16 match, El Tri had remained unbeaten in 10 games at that venue. However, the Three Lions recorded only 34% possession against the 2026 co-hosts, marking their lowest possession percentage in a match on record since 1966.
