Gravenberch Left Off Champions League Travelling Squad for Fenerbahce

· · 1 min read

When Trey Nyoni started the past two games for Liverpool at the base of midfield ahead of Ryan Gravenberch it raised more than a few eyebrows, with some wondering if it might even signal that Gravenberch was out of favour with manager Andoni Iraola.

It was revealed this week, though, that Gravenberch has been dealing with a heel issue—and simply limiting his minutes in training and to brief appearances off the bench over the past week does not appear to have helped the Dutch international to fully recover from it.

That led to news today that Gravenberch would be left off the travelling squad to face Fenerbahce, with the 24-year-old instead left behind on Merseyside to rest and rehabilitate his issue with an eye to this weekend’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

After both returned to action on the weekend with appearances off the bench, though, there’s better news for midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and forward Victor Muñoz, with the duo both included on the travelling squad heading to Istanbul for Wednesday’s match.

In other injury return news, Jayden Danns was included on the travelling squad for the first time this season. Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, and Hugo Ekitike remain long-term absences while Jeremie Frimpong could return after the international break.
