Grand jury declines to indict UH football player accused of assaulting pregnant woman: Court docs

A grand jury declined to indict a University of Houston football player accused of assaulting a pregnant woman, according to court documents.

Last week, 19-year-old Carmello Brooks was suspended from the UH football team after he was accused of assaulting a pregnant woman he dated. However, the woman showed up in court and told ABC13, saying she was not assaulted and defended Brooks.

On Thursday, a grand jury no billed Brooks in the case. However, according to court records, Brooks still faces a misdemeanor charge of breaking a doorknob involving a dispute with a different pregnant woman. Records show that the misdemeanor case is still ongoing.

Eyewitness News reached out to UH about whether Brooks will be reinstated to the football team, but we have not heard back.
