‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Officially Smashes a Box Office Record on Day 1

International movies are taking over the domestic box office this weekend, with Japan’s Godzilla Minus Zero and India’s Ramayana: Rise of a Legend taking the first and second spots on Thursday. Godzilla Minus Zero is eying a record-breaking opening-weekend haul on the back of excellent reviews, stomping out competition from this week’s major new American offering, The Cat in the Hat. The Roald Dahl adaptation looks set to become Warner Bros.’ latest box-office disappointment in a year the studio would like to forget.
